What Does Faith Over Fear Mean

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Having faith over fear means choosing to have faith in God instead of focusing on what you feel, see and hear. It is a choice to act according to what the Word of God says, not according to what your emotions are telling you.

Choosing faith over fear doesn’t mean that you don’t feel afraid at times. It means that you’ve decided that your actions are no longer determined by fear, but are determined by your faith in God. In this blog post, you’ll find out what does faith over fear means in more detail.

Faith over fear is a choice

Making the decision to put your emotions down and act according to what the Word of God says is a choice we all have to make every day. When we’re in the storm with the wind blowing and the water crashing down around us, we still have a choice to make.

Faith needs to be intentional

Feeling fear is a natural experience for all human beings. But if you let it have its way, it can take control over your life. Faith needs to be intentional, it won’t come automatically or accidentally. You don’t get lucky with Faith – you need to plant good seeds in your heart (the Word of God) and let it grow.

Your mind will determine what choice you make

Your mind is your most powerful weapon. Use it to think according to what the Word says, not based on your feelings or experiences. This way, your thinking aligns with God’s thinking and fear will have no place in you. When this happens, your actions will also follow and you’ll find yourself living in the Will of God – full of victorious faith!

Nurture your faith

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). The more you allow yourself to fill your mind with thoughts of faith the more you will be successful at conquering fear and overcoming negative emotions.

What faith looks like

When you have faith in God, He becomes your confidence, your protection, your source, your comforter, and your guide. You let Him have control of the things you can’t control (ie. tomorrow, what other people do or think), casting all your cares to Him. This will give you confidence, peace and joy.

What the Bible says about faith over fear

Here below you will find 7 scriptures about conquering fear. I suggest you meditate on them, repeat them out loud, and expect the Holy Spirit to give you revelation regarding your personal situation.

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18

say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.”

Isaiah 35:4

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:34

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storehouse or barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest? Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not be concerned about what you will eat or drink. Do not worry about it. For the Gentiles of the world strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added unto you.

Luke 12:22-31

Where does Fear Come from

Fear begins as a seed. A thought. An imagined scenario. And the more you dwell on it, the more your mind carefully crafts it into a much clearer picture. It can become so real to you that the picture it’s painting just seems inevitable.

The acronym for FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. It is a false concept we create in our minds that is very convincing. This is why many say that fear is worse than facing the actual situation we are afraid of.

However, what our mind makes up in the dark, God can bring to light. For this reason we need the Word of God to overcome fear, it is a lamp to guide our feet and a light for our path (Ps 119:105). When we meditate on the Word of God, it changes the picture we see in our imagination.

Let your faith be bigger than your fear

Faith is not about feeling. Faith is not an emotion but an unshakable conviction based on the Word of God.

Letting your faith be bigger than your fear, means that your actions are determined by what the Word of God says, and these actions are not affected by how you feel.

If you have a physical fear, then know that faith in God is the cure. Fear represents your mountain and you need to start speaking to it:

if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. (Matthew 21:21)

Fear can’t coexist with faith, you either have one or the other. So once, as you build up your faith in God, let patience have its work and sure enough fear will disappear (it has to go!) because all there will be in your heart is FAITH. Your heart will be so full of faith, that there will be no place for fear anymore.

Why is faith over fear important

Faith over fear is so important because it guarantees victory in our lives. If there’s no faith, there’s no victory:

for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

1 John 5:4

Decide today that you will be driven by the Word of God and that your actions will be determined by your faith, not by your fear. You’ll experience the miraculous in your life!
