5 Minute Christian Meditation

If you have a busy life, a 5 minute Christian meditation may be the best way to find peace and confidence in the promises of God. You can even do it multiple times a day. 5 minutes is not long, but it is powerful when done in faith.

1. Sit in a comfortable position

Start by sitting in a comfortable place with no distractions. You can also set an alarm for 5 minutes so you know when your time is up and are not distracted by looking at the time every minute.

Invite the Holy Spirit to fill the place where you are.

Make sure to prepare your heart by being expectant to receive from Him. Without expectation, the Holy Spirit has nothing specific to work with. However, when you come to Him with a specific request, He’ll make sure to give you whatever you ask according to His will (John 14:13).

This step is the most crucial to achieving your end goal: peace in your heart and perhaps an answer to a specific problem.

2. Close your eyes and breathe deeply

As you breathe in, inhale the presence of the Holy Spirit, and let Him fill you until you know you are overflowing with peace and joy.

Ephesians 5:18 tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Consciously breathing in His presence is a great way to put this into practice and receive His peace that transcends all our understanding.

As you breathe out, release all the worries and concerns of your day. Let Him take care of that (Philippians 4:6).

Confess any sin that you’re aware of, knowing that he is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Cast all your cares upon Him, as he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7).

Keep doing this simple exercise until you overflow with uncontainable joy and His perfect peace.

Let the following scripture inspire you throughout this step: Now may God, the fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope! (Romans 15:13 TPT)

3. Focus on His presence

As you breathe in and out, focus on the presence of the Holy Spirit. If a scripture comes to mind, meditate on it and see yourself putting that scripture into action.

Remember this scripture: whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)

4. Bring your thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ

If you notice a thought of worry, anxiety, or thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, take that thought captive (capture it, like a prisoner of war) and bring it to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

In your mind, a picture that thought, take it and submit it to Christ in this moment of prayer.

5. Receive the peace of God

When you have received the peace and joy of God in your heart, open your eyes and think about what you’ve just experienced. You know when you have received His peace – it settles the questions in your mind and overflows into thanksgiving.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit will show you a picture or give you a word that will bring clarity, understanding, and revelation to your soul. Always write down what God gives or shows you, and thank Him for it.

This session in the presence of God guarantees refreshing and you’ll feel renewed!

6. Repeat as often as desired!

Scripture encourages us to meditate on the Word day and night, and pray at all times. While the world is always trying to steal our attention, our focus should be on pleasing Jesus and keeping sensitive to his voice. Our union with Christ is what gives us peace, joy, strength, fruitfulness, and the power to change our world!
